Yep, heating with wireless charging is totally normal, and can be much worse in warm air. As mentioned, position is pretty critical, and it’s slow (particularly if the phone is running any apps). If your phone doesn’t support wireless charging it will be unaffected by the charging coil (IOW, it won’t heat up).

Pretty sure most iPhones support wireless charging, and they have something like 40-50% of the market, so it’s hardly an uncommon feature. Next most common would be Samsung and their Galaxy phones also support wireless charging. Pretty much everyone I know has either an iPhone or a Galaxy (and a couple Pixels – which also support Qi).
