Electric parking brake light comes on intermittently while driving

Note that there is an extended 15 year/unlimited mileage warranty on the electric parking brake assembly for Outback model years 2010 through 2014. I received a letter from Subaru of America informing me of this extended warranty at the beginning of October 2019.

Thank you for this. I spoke to the service department at the dealer and they will get back to me. I’m in Canada but I can’t see any logical reason why this wouldn’t apply here too since they are the same vehicles.
The service department at the Subaru dealership said it was a faulty parking brake sensor and quoted me $1600! So yes, it would be nice not to pay that. They have to order that sensor so I would definitely shop around for a better estimate.
In the meantime, I’m trying to decide if taking this car on a long trip is safe without having the sensor fixed first. The service guy said that the parking brake seems to be engaging and disengaging, but the sensor is giving an incorrect signal that causes the dash brake light to come on. So the brakes themselves are fine, and the parking brake seems to work, but not the light. The dealership said that for liability reasons they cannot say that taking the car on a trip is safe without repair.
