Catalytic converter recycling | Subaru Outback Forums

My main OEM cat is toast so I replaced it. My brother told me about recycling places that take catalytic converters and they can actually give you a fair amount of money for them – depending on the catalyst.

In fact, there are websites that can give you an estimated value for a particular catalytic converter; but, you need a number of some kind which should be stamped on the cat itself.

I removed the heat shield from the old one, but I don’t see ANY numbers or letters. I also looked inside and outside the heat shields themselves but didn’t see anything.

Has anyone ever done this before? I don’t expect money, as this thing is totally toast; but it would be interesting to see if anyone else has figured it out before.

Here are my pictures, just for fun I guess…
