Gear oil is a bit like motor oil – no need to worry too much about meeting Subaru specs. Any 75w-90 GL5 full synthetic should be fine, including Amsoil Severe Gear which is considered very good for both front and rear differentials, or Motul Gear 300, or any of the other name brands . Don’t get fixated on 75w-80. The big problem is when people put differential oil in the CVT by mistake, so make absolutely positively 100% sure that you don’t put differential oil in the CVT. Is one usual mistake to make – whether it’s the owner, a quick lube place, or an indie mechanic who doesn’t specialize in Subarus.
I’m trying to vent and get some opinions and feedback on something I’m dealing with. I have a 2019 outback 2.5 with 24.5k miles bought new in December 2018… I contacted the dealer for the 30k service and was quoted 1K, Not satisfied I contacted a local reputable service center…
