Back to Subaru? | Subaru Ascent Forum

(Apologies if there are newer questions about possibly buying a new one (’23 Ascent) – thread search seemed out of date. Questions go to case improvements and seat removal.)

Background: I’ve had a number of foresters and foreigners over the years and I’m thinking of going back. I am currently with an F-150 crew cab and a Wrangler JLU, but have since bought another dog – traveling with 4 golden retrievers. The F-150 will be replaced, and I am considering a Limited Ascent. I like the idea of the larger size of the Ascent (compared to the Outback) and the ability to keep my dogs together in the cargo area for road trips and occasionally towing the 1800 lb off-road trailer. The Wrangler is mostly used for camping, with the top removed so the dogs can grab ice cream and Chik-fil-A – tough life, I get it (with Kurgo clips, laces and cargo net securing them inside). After all, I miss my Scooby-Doos and adopting the extra dog has pushed me for room in the F-150 and I really don’t need a truck at this point.

question: So basically, how are the newer Ascents’ issues, in terms of the familiar CVT, battery drain, etc.? How has Subaru done with ironing out the kinks in the “new entry” to their lineup? Also, for those camping off the Ascent and/or dismounting/traveling with dogs, my thoughts are to remove the seats to open up the entire cargo area for my dogs. Is the cargo area flat or will I have to level it with a “platform” or similar. My load will go up and a storage basket will likely come off the hitch (I’ll have to install it).

Advice? Recommendations? YOU!! Photo for fun and, I guess even though not The Barkleys, I’m bound to go back to Subaru! See attachment 20639
