Why are there no hybrids? | Subaru Outback Forums

Here in the UK and Europe, the OB is the only new Subaru vehicle you can buy that isn’t a hybrid (e-boxer) or EV. IMO hybrids are terrible and I will only buy Subaru if one of their models remains an ICE.

Hybrids = Heavy vehicles, hence poor acceleration, no room for a spare wheel (What! for a supposed 4×4!), plus seriously reduced petrol (gas) tanks thus limiting range. Very little difference in mpg again due to the heavy weight of the batteries.

Oh yeah, and if you look online about cobalt mining in the Congo and the atrocious conditions child labor and slave women have to endure (10kg of unrefined cobalt for just one car battery), you’ll see how lithium batteries aren’t social justice warriors at all, as well as extremely polluting due to the effects of lithium mining, and there is also the massive problem of those spent, 200kg plus toxic boxes, otherwise known as broken batteries, which still cannot be recycled . And of course, extra weight means extra tire wear and all the tire pollutants that come with that issue as well.

Don’t get me wrong, I know technology and industry can be as scary to the environment as a petrol man, but selling ‘hybrids’ to the public as a ‘green’ alternative is extremely dishonest.
