Unusual Features/Functions | Subaru Ascent Forum

Love my Subaru. Returning to Subaru after 10 years away.

After driving for over 4 decades and literally owning dozens of cars and trucks over that time, I find the following odd, unusual at best, for a 2023 model. What are your thoughts.

1) Drivers side view mirror doesn’t have the option of tilting in reverse like the passenger side does. Manual says must be turned on/programmed by the dealer. My dealer took care of it no charge. I just don’t see a benefit to Subaru, dealers or customers by making a separate trip to the dealer. Almost all my cars in the last 20+ years have came from the factory with the ability to have both mirrors tilt in reverse if the option is selected by the customer in vehicle settings.

2) Sunroof does not have one touch close. Per the manual one must push and momentarily hold and the sunroof glass moves the whole way forward and begins downward, then another push on the switch is required to close it. Again I can’t see the benefit to anyone for this double action one must be mindful of this nuance, especially after having 15 or so sunroofs which close with one action.

What are you thoughts?

Safety, to make sure you really mean it, and didn’t bump the button when your head/body is sticking out of the moonroof.

Along the same lines as what Robert just mentioned, there are multiple things that require a “long push” to effect for safety reasons. It’s basically an “are you sure you want to do that” thing. It’s also not unique to Subaru.

I think he’s referring to when it closes, it closes to tilt first. Then you have to push it again to really close it. This wouldn’t save your head or hands. So not that you have to hold for a second to initiate the close, but that it doesn’t actually close, just goes to tilt-open. I might be wrong, but this feature bothers me too. If you do a hard close, it should just close… You can tilt it open after if you want it open.

As for the mirrors, this is the first car I’ve ever had that tilted mirrors. I assumed it was default only passenger side because most parallel parking is done on the right side of the road (we have a lot of one ways here in Western WA so not true everywhere). So you have one mirror tilt to see the curb and the other stay up to see traffic behind/alongside. It would make a lot of sense to just have the option in settings rather going to dealership though.

Totally agree, the moonroof stopping at that tilt position is completely nonsensical.

Not sure what you mean by the mirror “tilting in reverse”. Seems like both of my side mirrors tilt about the same.

When you put the car in R, after a couple seconds delay the passenger (and driver if set that way) mirror will tilt down maybe 15 degrees allowing you to see the ground (curb or parking lines) for easier parking. I know it’s on the Onyx Limited so I assume also on the Limited, surely the touring. It’s subtle, but check for it next time you put the car in R. Once back in any other gear setting, the mirrors revert to normal.

I agree. Non-sensical is a perfect word. I’m actually not a fan of moon roofs to begin with and I would not order special the panoramic either. The theatre curtain inside looks “saggy” to me.

My ’24, both tilt down in reverse.

Maybe it was only on Touring for MY21, which is what TheRaven has?
