The parts department at the nearest dealer tried to sell me the wrong oil.

I’ll be right in the middle of a vacation trip when it’s time for the first oil change on my 2024 OBW, so I figured I’d do it myself early before I leave. I called the parts department of the nearest dealer to see if they had the oil in stock and what the price would be per quart.

I told the part guy who answered the phone that I had a 2024 desert so it had a turbo. He told me it took 6 liters of 5-W30. I asked him the price and while he was checking I double checked the manual that it should take 0W-20 and just under 5 quarts. When he got back on the phone he quoted me $16 per cord for 5W-30. I asked him if he was sure about that oil because the manual said it should be 0W-20 and 5 liters and he told me it was for non-turbos and that turbo engines got 5W-30.

At that point I just said thank you and hung up, I know which dealer I won’t be buying parts from or going to for service. It’s too bad because that dealer is only 5 minutes from my house, luckily there are other dealers in the area.
