Is My Subaru Worth Repairing?
I have a 1998 Subaru Outback Wagon with only 80,000 miles on it. The original owner only did 77,000 miles in the 17 or so years she had it, and she treated it very well, making sure she got all the scheduled maintenance, etc. The second of two owners before me, unbeknownst to me. it, beat the engine, steering gear, etc. almost to pieces. I got the car in November 2018 and gradually realized that there were some serious problems.
A local shop tested it and recommended the following:
Remove the rear differential and replace it with a used one
Remove and replace water pump, air conditioning belt, alternator and power steering belt
Timing Belt Kit
Motor shaft assembly
Engine shaft seal
They estimated the parts and labor at $2,734.30
I will contact the Subaru dealer and see what estimate they can provide.
Anyone have any suggestions? Hiding? To be fixed?
