Gen 2 – Fuel pump question (aftermarket or not)

I hope this is posted in the right place.
The car is old 98 with about 210 thousand. Did engine swap with a 2.2 95 Impreza engine not sure of engine mileage. The engine runs well.
So my problem is with the fuel pump I believe. I took it to the grocery store late one night and it came out to start, it started, then died immediately and wouldn’t restart, I assumed a fuel problem and did the trick on the fuel tank and started it. I have no codes related to this just P0420 this code keeps coming up since we did the engine swap

Tested the wires to the fuel pump with a test light. The light comes on for a few seconds each time the key is pressed. When I go to start sometimes I can hear the fuel pump sometimes I can’t. Hitting the fuel tank with something usually makes it go. It hasn’t died with me driving on the road, but I haven’t driven it much.
First question: is there anything else that could be this problem or maybe the fuel pump?
Second question: This is an old car, who knows how long this will last….. The OEM fuel pumps cost more than I paid for this car! Can I get rid of the aftermarket and if so what brand is recommended. Based on what I read on these forums, you guys say the aftermarket is crap, but maybe I can get away with one. I don’t expect this car to get a million miles….I don’t mind paying a few hundred vs $60 for a better one, but do I need a 500+ OEM.
Can I pull one from a savior? If so, which years are compatible?
