Ascent 19 was backwards! | Subaru Ascent Forum

I received a preliminary estimate from a Subaru-approved repair shop. A bunch of things will be “removed and installed”, the liftgate will be repaired and painted in place and color matched, the bumper will be replaced, the nameplates will be replaced. The estimate is more than 5 thousand dollars. Needless to say, it seems excessive, and yet it is only the preliminary estimate.
To me the bumper looked good. I thought it would just be an easy fix to the bottom of the liftgate.

Now I’m in a quandary: although the other side admitted fault, I’m wondering if so many ‘fixes’ are really worth it. Many factory installed things will be removed and reinstalled. The bumper will be replaced with a repainted one, which I’m sure won’t be the same quality as the original. A lot of the paint will be matched and flattened, which I assume will involve sanding and rubbing, eroding the clear coat. My concern is that too many gremlins can creep. Also, if the repair bill is over $750, I assume it will start showing up on the DMV or Carfax type record as an accident, lowering the value of the car.

If I don’t repair it, I’ll have to live with the slightly bent edge of the liftgate, it definitely hurts. as it was not my fault but so far without the other issues. Hopefully the record for the car will remain clear, although I will lose some value due to the telltale bent edge sign.

Any tips or suggestions?
