I’m in the market for a preowned Outback in the $11-13k range, and have been doing my due diligence in reading reviews on OBs that I see for sale, locally. Vehicle History with reviews by Alex Showalter usually pops up at the top of Google search results. However…his reviews on some (a lot, actually) years and models (e.g., 2010 OB), are far more critical/negative than say, JB Power, Consumer Reports, or Edmunds.
So my question is whether or not Showalter’s site is worth paying attention to, when his reviews differ considerably from the aforementioned review sites.
Here’s an example. I’m looking at a 2012 OB 3.6R. His review begins with: 2010 Subaru Outback Review: Avoid The Unreliable All-Wheel-Drive Wagon (sorry, I can’t post links since this is my first post!) JB Powers and Edmunds are much more favorable, or at least balance the pros and cons.
So, just wondering what ya’ll think of Showalter’s site as a resource for researching vehicles, and OBs in particular.
Thanks!
Stephen
