Gen 4 – Gen 4 power window slow failure – motor or switch?

Hi
I have a MY 2012 gen 4 Outback
Over the past year I have had a worsening problem where my drivers windows will not go down. it started as an intermittent issue where had to press switch for longer to get to go down, but then got worse where had try multiple times to go down. Now it wont move at all. When the window was down, putting it up was no issue and moved every time at full speed, so i dont think its a regulator issue, as when moving was straight and ok. When it did start to move down then it was no problem going all the way down at correct speed, although the auto full down function stopped working which is why at first i thought it was the switch unit (i.e. slowly stopping making a connection)

I got a replacment switch unit from a wreckers but had exactly the same problem, no movement, and whilst it might have the same fault it was sold as tested working. I am eliminating a fuse issue as that would be a working or not working issue rather than a slow failure.

I can hear the relay click after a couple of seconds and engine rev slightly with both the original unit and the replacment so now i am thinking that its less likely to be the switch

I am now assuming it can only be the main motor that has failed, would anyne have a way to determine if this really is the issue before i purchase another?
