I had the head gasket replaced about a year ago and the oil loss continued. I just assumed since it was close to 200,000 miles that it was just burning oil, however, the leak was/is doing the same thing as a head gasket leak…dripping into the exhaust and burning, so no there are oil stains in the garage. I just kept filling it up but finally decided it was time to take it back to the shop that did the HG replacement to see what they thought. They say it’s the cam seal and the oil pump seal.
My question: Should they have noticed this when making HG? I’m a shade tree mechanic at best and I honestly don’t know, but it’s frustrating because I believe they’ll have to pull the engine again to replace the cam seal. Again, it never stopped leaking oil, but I didn’t notice right away because it was dripping in gas and burning, making me think it was just burning oil.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thank you.
