2005 Outback 2.5i is acting strange. First we’ve got the familiar stereo and climate control issues. In my case, the stereo makes an ear-splitting boom every 11 seconds and the auto/dual climate controls vibrate and flash right after the boom. I pulled the 20A fuse in the engine compartment, but driving becomes tricky without the fan and/or heat/AC. I have seen some improvement after disassembling the head unit and cleaning the face contact pins (only found 3 while others say there are 4?). The problems disappeared for a day after the reassembly, but slowly crept back, probably due to the vibrations.
Then there’s the rear wiper that doesn’t move (washer works and fuse is good). I haven’t traced the wiring yet. The rear center console cigarette outlet had a blown 20A fuse, I replaced it and it seems to work.
My airbag light has been on for a while. I pulled the top light assembly and checked the resistance on the LED strip resistors. My strip only has one LED and the resistance is right on spec at 512Π. The solder joints looked fine so I didn’t mess with them.
I’ve also had intermittent brake and charging lights, so I’ll look at the alternator output tomorrow.
Does anyone have any clues as to what else could be causing the problems? Thank you.
