A number of you may have heard that Sheetz is running an 88 octane sale. Sheetz 88 (and others) contain 15% ethanol.
THERE IS A LOT OF MISINFORMATION ON THIS SUBJECT.
WE Ascent owners can consume up to 15% ethanol (and thus can use 88 octane). But, I know many of you have other Subies, so…
MOST Subarus CANNOT run 88 octane (due to ethanol content – 15% is too high for most).
The following subies can be executed Up to 10% ethanoland cannot exceed 88 octane because it has too much ethanol (up to 15%).
These vehicles must not use more than 10% ethanol:
- 2021 WRX (Also needs 91+ octane)
- 2020+ Outback/Legacy NA (2.5i)
- 2018- Crosstreks
- 2019+ Forester 2.5 Includes Forester Wilderness
- 2021 STI (Also needs 93 octane)
- MUCH older Subarus
BUT…
SOME Subarus CAN run 88 octane:
- All Subaru climbs
- 2020+ Outback/Turbo Legacy
(except when towing – 91+ octane while towing)
Includes outdoor desert - 2019+ Crosstrek 2.0
- 2020+ Crosstrek 2.5
- 2022+ Forester 2.0
SOME Subarus CAN consume 15% ethanol BUT require more than 88 octane – these Subies can’t run 88 because the octane rating is too low:
- 2022 BRZ (93 octane, up to 15% ethanol)
- 2022 WRX (91+ octane, up to 15% ethanol)
Please refer to the information above to see if your Subie can run Sheetz (and other) 88 octane gasoline. If your vehicle is NOT in the information above, go to the link, enter your year and model, and check your owner’s manual.
