I have designed dsp based audio systems for my home so I have all the tools to measure a speaker indoors and outdoors.
A new 2024 crosstrek is coming and I’ve been reading about the tweeter’s picks.
I hate silk domes so this will be a metal dome conversion.
My debate is to just buy an off the shelf kit or try to do my own passive setup. Using any passive system is like traveling back to the 1960s for me, because the timeline is no joke. But I think for a car it will be fine.
Does anyone know how deep the tweeter well is in a crossover? From the pictures I’ve seen it looks like 1″ or so. I need it
If I go my way, I’d like to use either:
audax tm025c (cheap option)
scanspeak Be dome (there are two versions)
There are two 4ohm Be scan domes and the better one is taller and has a lower FS. I would like to use that cube if possible.
There are some ETON 2way kits that look nice too and would take care of the XO. But I also know not to trust any canned XO. There are too many variables just to throw one in- or am I being picky again?
I like to design for a shaded XO at 1500 Hz. This is where hearing cannot distinguish left from right due to interference from the size of the head.
So the front will most likely be two-way with a tweeter and in the middle with a shaft at the back.
This is all a WIP. I hope once things are sorted out this thread can help someone else.
We go! The car won’t be here for another month so I’ll just do some research before I buy anything. I’m really curious to measure the car as it is to see the audio performance.
