I liked the idea of those factory crossbars and I think they are good for a lot of things. But I carry 2-3 kayaks on top of my back and I didn’t like how much wobble there was in the transoms when I put the collars up there. If I’m hauling a $3k boat on top of my car, I want to feel confident that things are secure. I ended up removing the built-in bars and replacing them with Yakima landing pads (#27), Yakima horizon towers, and Yakima jet flow bars. This setup is ROCK strong and with horizon towers you can take it down or back up in about a minute. I like that aspect bc I like to put my roof down when I don’t need it so I don’t have to listen to it all the time. It was an expensive setup, but most roof things are. It raises your roof height for loading by a few inches, which is a real bummer, but overall I’m much happier with my aftermarket setup.
