Upgrading the head unit to one with Android Auto/Apple CarPlay recommendation

Safe thing. I got this model from AliExpress after several conversations with a bunch of different sellers.

What I wanted:
Bigger screen
Auto Carplay/Android hopefully built-in wireless
Steering wheel controls like I was going to lose the key, I needed the volume controls in my hand
Factory use backup camera
And a DSP to modify the sounds so I can add a small subwoofer under the seat for bass focus so my new door speakers can focus on the mids and highs

So I bought this brand… Sure it’s pretty much a copy and paste of most brands out there, but this was the first with a confirmed buyer and review from someone in Europe with our generation.

Installation was easy. Started at 430pm, finished around 6, as I was weird and learned some trial and error. So really easy installation.

Things marked. Need to keep the Starlink unit which is stacked under the main unit, still haven’t figured out where to mount it. You need to remove the top bezel of the thermostat controls. This turns the 3 step separation into a 2 step step in which you will remove the vents second and remove the bottom of the thermostat controls first. The latest is that the 2015-2017 exteriors should have an adapter sold by crutchfield to change the backup camera signal to RCA video, it will be here on Thursday.

Overall I really like it, I like the sound and the arrangement. I hate the launcher, but I can change it. The steering wheel controls work fine with the exception of Android auto as there is a known software issue that Android auto hasn’t fixed in years, but it’s wireless. Overall very happy with my purchase now I can have dedicated maps and music with the other device.

I was originally going with daisata since I was working with them to ship one for $385 but went with confirmed purchase.

Here are also links to the things I bought

Head unit:
The seller was very nice and the shipping was fast. Very communicative and detail oriented.

This is necessary for the backup camera

Let me know if you have any questions or if I can do any testing. I’ll be changing my launcher to one I like soon
