Greetings. Welcome. So this is a forum for the Outback which is built in Indiana, the Impreza WRX is still built in Japan. Given the supply chain and shipping delays, 2 months seems fast to me. Some people wait longer than that for their completed Outback to arrive at their dealer.
As a previous WRX driver, this is A LOT of car for an 18 year old who will undoubtedly run into some sort of fender bender along the way (100% of my WRX brethren sent their whips to the body shop at least once, mine went three different times for the same reverse which was not my fault). Not my son, but my 18 year old son wouldn’t be allowed to have one even if they bought it with their own money, but you do.
They have a high loss ratio and insurance is not cheap even for experienced drivers. Find one at a dealer’s lot, grab the VIN, get a quote from your insurance company to add it – just to see what you’re in for.
Subaru VIP pricing is the best way for any order, I know the Solterra is currently excluded, I think the WRX is too, but check for yourself – there’s another thread here. Any other Impreza/Outback/Forester/Ascent should be acceptable.
Here is the link to the ASPCA Subaru VIP processing information page. Everything you need to know to get 2% down on your bill. You will need to know which retailers participate in the program (call). It takes about two days to get your ASPCA membership number and then fill out an online form at…

For yourself, I’d just suggest driving one to see how you like it, check back when you’re closer to making a decision.
