Why did Subaru make such a difficult headlight design?

I got a headlight and looked for a video on how to replace it and saw the guy take the entire front end off just to replace a bulb. Then I thought, why not just remove the headlight unit? Well, the Japanese really have a sick mood, because they took sixteen or seventeen clips just for the headlights, and the front part also has to be completely removed.

This reminds me of two Toyota headlight replacements. One was a 2005 Pontiac Vibe, the other a 2000 Celica. Without removing anything to make more room, the Vibe was the worst headlight design I’ve ever seen. You can remove the bulb with the space they gave you, but good luck getting it back.

The Celica isn’t that bad, it has some top mounts, but you still have to pop the front bumper off to remove the bottom mounts. You have to remove the entire bumper to get to the fog lamps as well. Good luck replacing the bolts when they are all rusted and clean.

Now the best headlight replacement I’ve seen is on my Chevrolet, easy one, two, three. Remove a clip, remove a clip, remove the lantern, it’s so easy a caveman could do it. Maybe not as easy as the old round bulbs on older cars, but much better than most if not all modern mounts.

Why do Japanese manufacturers go the distance to make the absolute worst possible headlight replacement? It shouldn’t be as easy as 1-2-3, but what Subaru did here wasn’t even reasonable.
