I’ve posted my trailer before but thought I’d do it again because I still think this is too much to tow a scooter.
Note: I have a MotoTote motorcycle carrier on order and plan to use it to haul the scooter. Of course, using math makes the decision easier: Subaru says the tongue weighs 500 pounds. From the tie rod pin to the center of the ball is ten inches, or 0.83 feet, so you get 1.83 x 500 pounds and equals 915 ftlbs of torque on the pin.
The scooter weighs 278 pounds with full fuel. The carrier is 60 pounds. For a total of 338 lbs, assuming the worst case that the scooter is 24″ or 2 feet from the peg, we get 2′ x 338 lbs which equals 676 ftlbs; well below the maximum allowed by Subaru. It will I will post more when the carrier arrives which is still a long way off
