Using Wireless AA with multiple phones – how to switch?

Our new 2023 Premium is the first vehicle my wife and I have owned that has wireless Android Auto, so we’re still getting used to how it works. We love being able to swap between those who are ‘in charge’ of music and navigation when we travel. On our wired AA vehicles (marketed on the current ’19 Crosstrek and ’21 Crosstrek) this simply means the phone ‘on charge’ goes in first and the other phone plugs into the second to charge as needed.

In Mount, we set up two profiles and connected/paired each respective phone. The issue we are running into is – how the hell can we change which phone is in control and talking to the head unit?

I think the most recently paired phone is the default phone that the AA tries to connect to every time the car starts. If that phone is not available, it goes to the next phone (correct?). But if both phones are on and in the car, nothing we can do, including changing profiles, will force the AA to change phone connections. Half the time we even have to go into the driver profiles and manually change the phone’s connection status to ‘on’ before the exchange takes place.

Is this a common issue for wireless AA users, or just a Subaru thing?
