Transmission fluid change? | Subaru Outback Forums

Subaru Canada lists a fluid drain and fill at 100,000 km/60,000 miles. For some reason, the US and Australia list it as a lifetime liquid. As someone who has worked in auto service for a long time, I don’t believe that any fluid is forever. Even the brake fluid needs to be changed from time to time, although Subaru’s intervals are very short and are a rip off. Anyway, if you can check the fluid easily, maybe it could last longer, but since you can’t, I think it should be done at or near this range.

It’s a routine service in Canada – the main cost is the juice to be honest, as the job is relatively simple if the tech knows what they’re doing. It’s all part of the 100,000km “D” service here and it looked like it added about $250 to my bill. Cheaper than a $5000 CVT.

I would only do this at a dealer or an independent Subaru. It shouldn’t do anything at all that your local quick lube.
