Tips for improving the driving unit | Subaru Outback Forums

I have a 2017 Limited 3.6 w/ 59k. For the most part I have been very happy with it, but the lack of good navigation from the OEM unit is annoying and any more complicated navigation through Google Maps on my iPhone is very difficult. Mainly what I want to do is be able to view Google Maps on the center console screen. This requires, I have assumed from the posts here, replacement of the OEM head unit.

From what I gathered from other threads, specifically this one, depending on the model of the unit (Crutchfield is said to be a good source):

  • Third party entities will work with 2017 Limited
  • Apple CarPlay will work
  • the backup camera will continue to work
  • some steering wheel radio controls will NO JOBS

If I am concerned about any of this or there are other things I should know, please reply.

Thank you.
