In the first instance, I was driving straight, started to drift slightly to the left, tried to steer right to come back, and then the car lurched hard to the right, putting me halfway into the other lane. It happened again a month later, and while I don’t remember the specifics that led up to it, I do know that I was still in my lane, driving straight, and with the same result – the car violently pushed me into the other lane. .
In both cases, thankfully, there was no car near me, otherwise I would have broken down. I don’t scare easily, but it was scary. I no longer use the steering assist. I mentioned it to my dealer and they let it go. Given the incident and the response, I don’t think I’ll be getting another Suburu if a better alternative comes along (which is hard to find – besides, we’ve always loved our Suburus)
