swapped in new front cv’s, knuckles, bearings, etc, WHAT’S THIS mystery GREASE? (pics)

ok, so i’m at a loss, i swapped in new cv axles, steering knuckles, full brakes, bearings/hubs on both sides, paid a shop for an alignment. car feels great.

there is however some mysterious grease spraying around and it’s not coming from torn cv boots. can’t find where it’s coming from. granted I haven’t taken the wheels off again and might do that in a bit, but I’m wondering if anyone has seen this before or has an idea of what it is. I cleaned it off last night and it is there again today. I’m wondering if it’s excess grease from the back of the brake pads, but that doesn’t seem to make much sense. Can’t figure it out. it’s makes me think of petroleum jelly or vasoline. These images are taken just above the cv insertion into front diff

thank you
