Radio wire fuse concerns for HAM radios and amplifiers

I just passed my General exam, so now I’m preparing an installation of a new FT-891.
I’ve read various posts on others installing HAM radios, but I’m wondering about one of the weirdest debates I see on the internet (well, really two).
1) Most advice is to reverse the negative on the battery post. That’s exactly what my manual says. As I read another post here that says only go to the main terminal connection on the body because of a sensor for the battery (which can cause discharge or charge errors if connected directly I assume). Thanks Hendricks
I assume most, if not all, others have done this – just at the main connection point?

2) The real question is – put a fuse in line to the negative from the battery? Many radios (HAM) have fuses on both the power and neg wires, but I believe it should be on the radio side (on the radio) if present. Mine comes with fuse on both. The license prep books clearly state that you should NOT connect a fuse to the negative side of the battery as you would for the positive. However, many on the Internet say it should. Does anyone here have experience with this? I am concerned about alternate ground points in the overall system (antenna) if the negative is fixed.

Thank you
