For short city trips, fuel economy is significantly worse for turbo models, including the Wilderness, falling easily below 20 mpg. I don’t have the lowest Wilderness gear, but my 2020 Outback Onyx XT gets about 18 mpg, with my driving being almost exclusively short trips of less than 5 miles. But for long distance freeway cruising after the engine is fully warmed up, it’s not bad at all, with some people getting around 30mpg in those conditions, and I see this in my car too, on the rare occasion I get a long time. freeway cruising in unimpeded free-flowing traffic.
