My Subaru and my travel trailer

Hello to everyone,

I’ve been lurking around here for a while without owning an Ascent, but it was on my short list of future tow vehicles when it came time to replace ours.

We finally bought a 2023 Ascent Onyx in late February after looking at several used 2020 and 2021 models.

Here’s a picture of ours, tentatively named “Vader.” It will be used to tow our 2019 Safari Condo Alto F2114 that we bought last summer.

This weekend was our first outing with our new setup. I have to admit I’m really impressed with the Ascent’s powertrain. I like the linear powerband and it never feels like it’s overpowered, at least in relaxed driving mode, where with a trailer I’m careful and trying to read the minds of all the drivers around me. I haven’t weighed it on the Cat scale, but the actual dry weight (Safari Condo includes options in this calculation) is about 2700 lbs. I’m guessing about 3500lbs with all our gear inside so I have a margin of safety I’m comfortable with.

I am in the Montreal, Quebec Canada area, it will be a pleasure to cross paths with other members here on our travels.

Thanks in advance for all the wisdom, tips and advice I’ve found here on these forums. I’ve learned from what I’ve read, our first outing was without any weight distribution issues, even though we have one from our previous tow vehicle. ;)
