Anything you tow, your mpg will drop to about 10 mpg, be it Ascent or station wagon. I did a very general survey of truck owners and truck brands around 2005/6 (Dodge, Chevy, GM). This was NOT scientific, I simply asked drivers if they: 1) tow? 2) what kind of mpg do you get when not towing? 3) what mpg do you get when towing downhill (I live in northern AZ and people who tow usually go down to the desert floor to ride quads and other toys)? 4) what mpg do you get when going back on the hill? 5) is your truck gas or diesel? The results: gas trucks typically got about 16 – 19 mpg when just driving without towing; diesel trucks typically got 21 mpg or more just driving. Towing down the hill, they all got about 10 – 11 mpg; pulling up the hill they all got 7 – 9 mpg regardless of whether it was a gas or diesel truck. I was looking for differences between gas and diesel trucks as we had a duramax diesel at the time. It’s not just the Ascent with that kind of mpg, it’s all vehicles. Hope this puts some perspective on your mpg post.
