My 2015 Outback 2.5L has been acting up. I changed all 4 sparkplugs at ~110k miles.
Current mileage is ~136500 miles
I’ve been bitten by Ms.Misfire! First about 2 weeks ago it was code = P0300 with P0301 which I thought was cylinder#1 P0301 – changed the sparkplug (which was only 30k miles old) and life was good. I did not pay attention to the P0300 – random/multiple misfires
This week Cyl#3 misfires. So I thought great – this is the P0300 – went out and bout a sparkplug changed it. Put it back together and misfires still – and even more! I can actually feel the “thump-a-thump” in the exhaust
So I thought hmmm maybe coilpack …. got a coilpack from the dealer for ~$160 changed that, put back together. Still misfires, still thump-a-thump. Reset ECU (disconnect battery, wait ~10 mins, reconnect) – ECU was reset and still thump-a-thump misfires galore … all on Cyl#3.

What are my options now ?
As I see it the possible causes are:
- It now has to be cylinder is kaput – leak/crack – ouch!!
- Something busted in the fuel injectors … sounds complex, and I have no ideas on how Subaru does FI
- <something else> even more dire, crazy …
Any one seen something like this before? Or has suggestions … I am at my wits end
The good news is I can pull apart and put the cyl#3 coil pack/sparkplugs in my sleep at this point, it has become muscle memory … The bad news is it’s a useless skill!
