Manual Key Will Not Mechanically Unlock Door

This is the third time a minor cold snap (45 F) has zapped our Ascent battery. Tried getting into our car this morning and the fob wouldn’t work.

took the manual key out of the fob and tried that. Nothing. Turned both ways and each way resulted in nothing. Tried the spare fob and spare manual key, still nothing. Please tell me I’m not crazy and that Subaru did not build these things to 100% rely on a battery for the doors to be unlocked…

I imagine I should be able to mechanically unlock the driver door by inserting this physical key into the keyhole and turning like a regular door lock, correct? Is there any other tips or tricks I can try? Maybe up, down, up, down, left, right, A, B, A, B, start??

or is there a missing linkage somewhere in my door that needs to be fixed at the dealer?

thanks. We’ve had a morning…
