Lane Keeping Assist and Lane Keeping Assist

I have some roads around me while properly marked that are wider than normal. It seems to me that the vehicle in that circumstance chooses to stay closer to the center lane or the driver’s side lane markers. In those circumstances I prefer to be in the true middle of the lane, as my thought process is the further away from oncoming traffic the better; therefore, i have to turn it off or the car will keep pushing me closer to the driver’s lane markings. For what it’s worth, road wear however is usually closer to the driver’s side lines.

I also drive with hands in the 5/16 and 8/19 positions in the afternoon. The car sometimes threatens me to hold the wheel. I find a little tighter grip and or creeping just a little usually works it out. If you are a one-handed driver, say in position 12, it will most likely give you a hard time. My wife keeps her hands at the traditional 10am and 2pm and alarms rarely go off for her. If you’re light on the wheel, you’ll need to give it a tighter squeeze every now and then.

(As a side note, the bright driving areas are mostly from the 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM positions. So if you hold your hands up or down, you won’t get as much . Where I hold the wheel is at the ends.)

As already mentioned, if you want to change lanes, without the vehicle “fighting” you, use your blinkers. My 2018 Outback taught me that.

On the highway it works quite nicely following the road and staying centered.
