Jeep Grand Cherokee Plug-in Hybrid vs Ascent

Quick comparo of Ascent and my recent rental car – 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 2.0L turbo four, plug in hybrid. Colorado.

Weight – 5600 # – assuming because batteries. – maybe 1,000 # more than Ascent
HP – 270 from the 2.0L turbo four
Electric – 105 HP from two motors

The Cherokee got about 30 mpg without being charged – driving from Denver to Colorado Springs to Aspen to Denver – over 8 days. When on battery (after charging during descent from Independence Pass) – made it about 10 miles battery only, it was silent!

The Cherokee was more comfortable (better seats) than the Ascent, much quieter, with far less NVH.

Cherokee had ACC and it worked well, but did not have lane centering.

The Cherokee’s steering was really heavy. Really. Heavy.

Visibility in the Ascent is much better. Much. Better.

Electronic displays on the Cherokee were virtually unintelligible. Virtually. Unintelligible.

Grand Cherokee probably cost 50% more than the Ascent.

Hmmmm … if I wanted to take a 5000 mile trip on interstates? Grand Cherokee. But, just for the ease of parking, ease of operating electronics, visibility … Ascent.

Note – I LOVED the Grand Cherokee when it running electric only. Subaru needs to get going on an Ascent Plug In Hybrid – I could not buy another Ascent unless it has this!
