JDM/EDM mirror camera | Subaru Outback Forums

I’m new to the Outback forums (I don’t have an Outback) but I have a long history at NASIOC.

Higher-end JDM Subarus have a camera mounted on the passenger side mirror so you don’t brake the wheel while parking. I thought it was a really nice feature, but Japan being RHD, it’s not very useful here in the US… so last year I spent some money to import such a mirror from Europe (which is an LHD market) . I thought I could adapt it to work for my WRX, but later found out Outbacks have larger mirrors so it won’t look good. Unfortunately I cannot return it.

I would like some help identifying which particular model year Outback would physically fit and match the driver’s side view. Looking at Wikipedia, I believe it’s for the “Post-Facelift” Sixth Generation based on this photo:

On these forums, this seems to fall within the range of gen 5. What North American model years does the post-facelift correspond to?

For anyone who might be interested in it, I have done some research and am sure if it can work on a North American vehicle.

I had someone tell me that the MFD is region locked to not allow the mirror camera in North America… I can’t confirm this first hand. But if that’s the case, my plan was to install it as the front camera, which has been confirmed to work on North American vehicles.

This is a very interesting and unique addition to a North American Outback. To do it right, I believe it would require changing the connector (or making an adapter) for the door harness to match the mirror connector (proper connector and mating terminals are available to order) and then running some extra wires through the door and then from the door to the MFD.

If I can get some posts here I will list them in the classifieds section.
