Big/pita stuff I’ve done:
- Wheel bearings MANY times (105-125k)
- RF axle 3x (82-169k)
- Starter motor 179k
- Radiator 191k (should done 150k)
- HVAC Blower motor 2x (100k and 184k)
- Driveshaft 221k
- AC actuator/door 221k
- RF valve cover gasket 227k
- Transmission Valve Body 230k
- Wiring harness spliced on my own!
CURRENT NEEDS:
- HG small leak (exhaust-into-coolant, no mixing of fluids); no problem except at high heat esp at altitude, considering to solve with JDM Engine Replacement, but VERY nervous will lose my otherwise perfect-smooth running engine 😬
- PASSENGER HEAT not flowing defrost, dash or floor. Another blend door? Heater Core? Hoping radiator flush fix—this winter, surely my bad, trying to stave off HG repair by dribbling half a bottle of StopLeak in new radiator
- STRUTS both passenger side blown, RR just deposited entire load of hydraulic fluid in puddle on garage floor right after brake job. In cold weather, could be full extension on lift did it in, or sabotage by very hostile Budge Brakes dude who was so abusive to me, they installed 4 brake pads for no charge.
- RACK & PINION I’m used to no power steering, but the boot leaks, want to save my PS pump ($577 – 40k miles ago) if not too late. After a top up (you can’t stop them) PS still works until fluid drains out
- ALTERNATOR? tad noisy, but no problems
- LOWER CONTROL ARMS / bushings Brake shop dude said needs doing, never done, bushings look deteriorated, PSA: always snap a photo when they have your wheels off and show you stuff
- NEW or RE-UPHOLSTER Drivers Seat would be nice, small tears side panel, and somehow I got house paint on seat, tried to get it off, scraped off top/nice layer of leather, ugh. Back seats folded down for 15 years, look like new and passenger rarely used looks good. Anyone ever get their seat panels replaced or RE-up entire seat?
Otherwise she is great to drive, no rattles no hassles, great fuel mileage once I learned to use premium fuel, very comfy, love the handling even with long-dead struts. No rust that I know of. Garaged full time now. I drove a new OB Wilderness to tempt myself, but all the electronics give me a headache. I can look over my shoulder… I love simple lights, buttons and knobs over touchscreen (whose iPad has lasted a decade??)
For you in the arid west, indeed anything rubber breaks down with time. I lived without a windshield washer (hose crumbled) for years, but an easy fix to remove panel and run new tubing!
What other soft tissue parts are gonna fall apart on me?
