I have heard some people claim that significant rust on the blades is a reason to replace the rotors because it impedes cooling. Maybe it could contribute to fading in mountainous regions, but I’ve never noticed any effect on my Adirondacks trips, or aggressive urban stop/pass driving, and I have over 140k miles on the original rotors. Maybe if I lived up there I’d be more likely to notice, but, IMO, that’s generally not a valid reason to replace anything unless you have symptoms of bad rotors.
my dealer put my original rotors back at 95k they were still within spec after he put them back. id look into returning them if anything.
This only refreshes the braking surface which is always kept free from rust by the pads.
