Generation 4 – Is retraining necessary after valve body replacement?

I am seeing conflicting information on whether a re-learn is necessary after replacing the valve body. I had a post a few months ago about the CVT problems I was experiencing in my 2011 Subaru Outback with a TR690 engine (CVT Fluid Flush After Slipping in 2011).

The codes that were eventually withdrawn were P0700 and P2762. I plan to do the VB replacement myself to see if that solves my problem, but wanted to see if anyone has any definitive instructions if a re-learn is required after the job is done. My questions are:

  1. Is a re-learn required after replacing the valve body?
  2. I do not have the tool/software to perform a relearn. If a re-learn is required, will I cause any damage or problems by driving it 5 miles after the repair is completed at the dealer?
  3. The seller’s price for a re-learn is $200. Is this a typical price for this service? It seems like a lot to connect a computer for 10 minutes.
