When I looked at the BFG site, along with several other sites, none of them said that the same 225/65/R17 KO2s were “compatible” with my 2014 17″ wheels for some reason.
I obviously ignored that and installed them regardless, haha. Shortly after they finished fitting them, the mechanic called me to point out that he was concerned about the fact that there is only about 2-3mm of space between the tire and the molding around both corners of the wheel well. I got in the car and made sure I could turn the front wheels fully in both directions without any friction, and they did, with literally less than 1mm of play (at ~38psi).
I drove away with them and was actually enjoying the noticeable but still negligible road noise from the new tires all the way home. As I made the right turn to pull into my driveway, I heard what I quickly realized was the outer edges of the aggressive A/T pedal catching the spillway around the steering wheel.
After a few tests around town (an admittedly very steep town, from streets to off-streets), I realize that if there were any slight steep changes in grade while turning, the tires would rub.
I was hoping it would go away in a few weeks, but when it didn’t, I just took an angle grinder to the inside edges of the plastic molding to shave off a few millimeters, and that took care of the problem however steep. or sharp I came back after that.
Sorry for the length of my post, but it seems to me that these are the exact problems you’re going to run into, so I wanted to be as detailed as possible 😁
