Idemitsu makes Subaru fluids, Motul CVTF 107072 claims CVTF-III compatibility and is blue
JX Nippon makes the Ascent CVT fluid.
Also, Amsoil had been selling incompatible fluid for the new generation HT-TR690 for almost/about 4 years, and just changed their formulation to be compatible (I got it in writing).
Based on that, I would never trust them to tell me what fluid is compatible.
Motul fluid appears to have the same compatibility sheet as Amsoil. So I’m skipping those too. I’m still working on getting the Subaru spec sheet.
On a related note, other Subaru CVT fluids made by JX Nippon have toasted the new generation HT-TR690 in the Ascent (which is what the OBXT is based on and literally the one in the OBW), so it will to be shy Non-OEM fluid, especially since they’re all designed to favor belt-driven CVTs in Nissans and the like.
And, on a final note, apparently JX Nippon has finally started selling an aftermarket fluid that they claim is compatible. Since they are literally the company that makes our fluid, I would trust them (and no one else – except Subaru’s compatibility chart of course).
