While refreshing my front brakes, I wanted to replace both brake hoses.

When I tried to replace the OEM hose, I was unable to slide the retainer clip into the slot of the new brake hose to attach the hose to the body.
I had to put the old hose back on the car but now I wonder if this is a common issue or if I did something wrong. I still want to replace the old brake hose for some peace of mind.
Below are some pictures of the new hose and holder clamp. BTW, the original retainer clip that looks a bit different also didn’t work.
