Here I am:
For those who don’t already know, I had my timing belt and everything in that area including the water pump done by a shop about 3 years / 50k miles ago from a shop as I didn’t have the tools at the time or country. do the work myself. I don’t know what pump they used.
I was checking to see if the Rotella had any effect on the oil leak situation we are familiar with and saw a drop of green fluid hanging from a bolt on the exhaust pipe behind the pump and a cross bolt on the same side. I had checked my fluid level in both the radiator and reservoir and it was maybe a half pint total low, hence my original question. After looking things over again today, I conclude that this is not the issue anyway.
My pump and the hoses that go into it are dry. However, the gasket between the head and the block behind it is not, so on top of the oil leak, I also seem to have an external coolant leak.
It might be time for me to stop putting off the inevitable. I didn’t want to 2 years ago when I had a good steady income but the shop told me to just keep checking the oil and when it’s under warranty it’s time. Now… I guess I’ll have to start this myself. I wish I had a garage.
I’m also concerned about how that oil collects on the front of the oil filter. As I recall, I thought they replaced those cam seals as well, but that seems to be the source of that oil.
In addition to lectures on hose clamps, (the shop used them!😆), thoughts, comments, concerns and other helpful input are welcome. This could be the start of a journal topic.
