Gen 2 – Changed 2.2 to 1998 Legacy Outback that had 2.5 Now P0336

At what point is the P0336 code setting (immediately when idling or after several unsuccessful attempts to start and not start)?

Did you swap the camshaft and camshaft from the original engine to the new engine?

The ECU expects certain signals from the crankshaft and camshaft sensors to know that the engine is cranking and/or running. The crankshaft and camshaft tracks trigger the respective sensors and these signals are received by the ECU. If the wheels don’t match the ECU then you can get a fix but no start condition.

You should visually compare the wheels on the original engine and the new engine. If they are different, you will need to install the sprockets from the original motor to the new motor.
