New member but we too are having braking issues with our 2020 tourer. First set of front pads and rotors at 16k due to bad front vibration coming down the hill. 2nd visit and new revised front pads and rotors at 24k, 30k we noticed a click in the front axle CV and a dull thump like a loose or bad strut on the front right side . Brakes started shaking again, Replaced BOTH front axle shafts and rear swivels and glass tables. The techs couldn’t even duplicate it when we brought it in a week later, so I drove up, took them to a side road and Oh now he could hear it and they found a TSB and apparently they are ordering springs? (don’t think that’s what it is, but ok).
Told technician and foreman to go down two exits, take exit at 45-55 which is normal safe speed 100% will show. They went their own way and could not be duplicated. So I drive to the dealer and the Tech goes with me to that exit, but from the dealership its freeway and down the hill so no brake heat and no vibration. So I drive 5 paces up an exit turn back down and Traffic is moving 80 plus I’m probably 75 or so I told him I was going to slow down a little aggressively to get some heat on them and he was sure it was ok and you probably feel them by now.
So the Service calls tell me that the shop worker and the lead technician removed it and found no problem. Write a big “blame the customer” who was speeding and took the turn aggressively etc. I love my service person and told him that was BS to state and if they want to see how my wife pulls our kids around they can pull data from the car or the app. We have a speed limit alarm set for 80 and if I’m not driving it never goes off. The woman is 65-70 years old and not aggressive in driving or breaking. i said go read the internet these brakes are a known issue many reviews many customers even the tech gave me the eye “heaviest subaru car ever made and i see 3-4 a week for similar issues” so i said i read between good lines to hear you
Magically found the TSB in the spring noise and ordered them and are sending back new front rotors and they will remove those windshields. Seriously worried and think since I’m in CA and this is my 4th vacation visit at 30k, we will likely open a case and ask for a buyback and go on the Outback tour which we have as a loaner and the wife loves it the size. Sad, as we really love the car and the layout/space, but our boys are driving this year, so we’ll be going down a size for which they might seem to build better brakes.
