1. it would work correctly
2. it would increase my following distance
3. it would do nothing
Was told and I thought as well it may be the clock spring. Replaced that today, but same issue. So since i now knew how to take the steering wheel off, I took it back off and took apart the actual increase/decrease cruise control button. The pictures below are the back of the button itself and the circuit board it interacts with.
I dont have a before picture (because i honestly didnt think it was the cause), but I had some gunk on the copper 3 copper strips on the circuit board. I cleaned them with a shop rag, put it back together and it worked.
The questioning side of me could see how the copper strips being gunked up would prevent it from working, but how they could cause my following distance to increase; which is a completely separate button, to change, seems far fetched.
I didnt see anything in the wiring, and maybe just moving the wiring is what really solved it. But either way, its fixed! (ish).
