…It’s a little off to me that those kind of open element intakes are called CAIs or cold air intakes. Well, they’re actually WAI or HAI…warm air intake or hot air intake because they’re just pulling in all the hot air from under the hood (and also the air that’s been pulled through the radiator, depending filter location). Some systems are better than others at trying to insulate the filter from the hot air with sheet metal guards or panels, etc.
🤫🤠Nobody wants to hear this, Brudah. Remember when Dave Buschur posted those heart-wrenching Mustang runs at NASIOC some fourteen (!!!) years ago now?
We can keep preaching it, but no one wants to hear it.
Thanks for the answer. I have read many (every?) post on here regarding CAI and have good experience interfering with my 1995 Acura Integra back in the ‘fast and furious’ days lol. I’m mostly looking for that specific hum and deep pickup sound a few times that I actually only hit on my family carrier. To be honest even if I lost a few horsepower but gained the sound I would be very happy.
As with @hokiefyd , I really don’t know how much you’ll hear, given the devastating sound of the Ascent.
Back then, some people liked to pull the resonator from under the airbox – I went all the way and got a Perrin Short Ram, when I had my ’05 LGT. This, combined with a BLITZ Super BOV produced some nice mechanical sounds from the engine, but made the job harder for my tuners…
And it was painful to watch the IAT climb so quickly, during those hot and muggy summer days when ares are already less happy.
Winter is coming – the studded tires make a nice, aggressive noise when you start, almost like the intake sound of a domestic, large-displacement, naturally aspirated engine. At least that’s what it did in my Tribeca (oddly, I can’t really remember what it did in my Outback, but it was a weak 2.5ii – I promised myself it was the last time I’d choose not to pay for the engine with more ummph). I don’t know if it will pass the increased measures of NVH insulation in the Ascent.
Year-round, you can try the more aggressive A/T tires, although I can’t guarantee that highway roar won’t drive your passengers into mutiny…….. 😬
