Canada Road Trip!!!!! | Subaru Ascent Forum

My partner and I will be embarking on a road trip across Canada, from our home in Cornwall Ontario, to Tofino, also visiting some of the islands in the Inner Passage (forest fires permitting). While we will be staying in our makeshift camper-ru, it will be nice to connect with fellow Canadians from all provinces to share knowledge of the areas and share a meal or an espresso. My partner moved here from Morocco in November, and he is really social and eager to become Canadian, not to mention, very excited for this adventure :)

However, I have a few preparatory questions:

-I’m thinking of installing a 1500W inverter to run the coffee maker, plug-in cooler, and an insta-cooker to cook meals while we’re driving. I also have a travel trailer (which will stay at home due to gas prices) and was wondering if it wouldn’t be better to just buy a gas inverter/generator. of course, both are not in the same price range. Can I run the gin on the roof while driving?
I need your thoughts on this.

-As for the bed situation, I see various car camping bed platforms and mattresses online ranging from the $256 REI Platform to the $60 DYI Home Depot. Some people suggested removing the second row seats to allow more space. I will be traveling with a Thule XL Top Box, a Thule Hitch Bike Rack, and a Thule Paddleboard Carrier. I will also put a storage net above the bed. I wonder if I really need to remove the seats? Thoughts?

– Would you go through the trouble of building a platform just to crash a good mattress?

– In terms of privacy, all windows are tinted (factory rear and legal limit front) but there is no curtain. what would you suggest for privacy curtains?

The idea is to make this trip on one coin. if I go Genny’s route, it will be applied to the RV budget.

Thanks in advance for your input!
