I just put down a deposit on the 2020 Ascent Base model (convenience in Canada), now I’m faced with the extended warranty decision. The warranty offered (which makes the most sense relative to the price) is 5 years / 100,000 km for $3,500 CAD. Given the Ascent’s not-so-remarkable reliability ratings for 2020, the warranty was a no-no for me. Overall, do you think it makes sense for a vehicle like the Ascent warranty? I plan to keep the vehicle for about 4 years, maybe 5. The total cost of the vehicle (before taxes) was $29,000 CAD.
Some information:
- The car has 64,000 km
- Subaru engine / transmission warranty expires April 2025 or 100,000 km
- The bumper-to-bumper warranty expires at 6 months / 10,000 km
