Question 1: Can a blank transmitter key for a 2009 Limited be DIY programmed to open the doors and start the car normally? I’m talking about one:
I see an entire transmitter self-programming sequence in my owner’s manual, pages 2-13 through 2-15, but I also read that a transmitter key programmed this way may not start the car, which seems strange, since it would be useless. Why would Subaru print those instructions?
Question 2: If so, can someone tell me the exact part of key no. for a 2009 Limited, and maybe a confirmed source?
I understand that the key will still need to be cut by a locksmith, but I would like to avoid the high costs of dealer programming. And locksmiths are a PITA to work with – they all seem to be mobile now and want to charge just to come out and give an estimate.
